Women’s Hockey Defeats University of New Hampshire In Overtime, 4-3

Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) scored the game-winning-goal in overtime.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the University of New Hampshire, 4-3, in overtime on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. The Friars improve to 16-9-3 on the season and 12-7-2 in Hockey East play, while New Hampshire falls to 13-14-1 overall and 9-12-0 in Hockey East. Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) scored the game-winning-goal in overtime.

GAME FLOW & NOTES

 -Fed from a shot by Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.), Kiara Kraft (Churchville, NY.) found the back of the net at 9:06 in the first period to give Providence a 1-0 lead.

-At 13:14 in the first period, Audrey Knapp (Stevens Point, Wis.) improved Providence's lead to 2-0 with help from Cristina Cavaliere (Mississauga, Ontario) and Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario).

- Kira Juodikis scored New Hampshire's first goal at 6:39 in the second period. Sara Boucher and Julia Cabral were each credited with an assist.

-New Hampshire's Juodikis then netted a second goal at 12:01 in the second with Lucie Legro and Addy Finn assisting the play. Providence and UNH headed into the third period tied at 2-2.

-Chavonne Truter gave UNH their first lead of the game, 3-2, when she converted on a power play 6:36 into the third period. Callista Printz and Sadie Makokis assisted the play.

-With less than two minutes remaining in the third, Knapp tied the score, 3-3, with her second goal of the game. Hannah Johnson (Readfield, Maine) and Brooke Becker (Orchard Park, N.Y.) were each credited with an assist. The goal marked Knapp's 16th of the season and a career-high.


-The two teams headed to overtime, marking the third-consecutive overtime game for Providence and their eighth of the season.
 

-With help from Sarah Davies (Mississauga, Ontario), Becker scored the game-winning-goal 3:09 into overtime to give the Friars the 4-3 victory.
 

-Becker's assist and goal improves her multi-point game tally to four games this season.

-Providence improves to 10-2-0 when Knapp records a goal and 9-0-0 when Johnson registers an assist.

-Walinski recorded 11 saves for the Friars.

-After the win the Friars are 4-1-3 in overtime games this season.
