Women’s Hockey Falls To No. 14/14 Boston University, 4-1

Reichen Kirchmair scored the lone goal for the Friars.

BOSTON, Mass.– The Providence College women's hockey team fell to No. 14/14 Boston University, 4-1, on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Walter Brown Arena in Boston, Mass. With the loss, the Friars moved to 17-10-3 overall and 13-8-2 in Hockey East play, while the Terriers improved to 20-9-1 and 17-5-1 in conference action. Reichen Kirchmair (Oakville, Ontario) tallied her 30th point of the season with the Friars' lone goal.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
 
-Both teams were scoreless through the first period. Boston University had one power-play opportunity, but failed to capitalize. After 20 minutes, Providence held a 12-7 advantage in shots on goal.
 
-Kirchmair broke the deadlock at 9:49 of the second period with her second goal of the weekend. Josie Lang (Stillwater, Minn.) earned the assist. The goal marked Kirchmair's 30th point of the season, making her the first Friar to reach the 30-point mark this year. Kirchmair extended her point streak to four games with the goal.
 
-The Friars headed to the third period with a 1-0 lead. Providence have outscored opponents 34-18 in the second period this season.
 
-Sydney Healey tied the game for the Terriers at 7:40 of the third period, with Christina Vote and Lindsay Bochna earning the assists.
 
-Just 1:28 later, Maeve Carey put the Terriers ahead, 2-1. Alex Law and Kaileigh Quigg contributed assists on the goal.
 
-The Friars were awarded a power play with 10:13 remaining in regulation. After a turnover at the blue line, Alex Law scored an unassisted short-handed goal, which extended the Terriers' lead to 3-1.
 
-Providence pulled the goaltender for an extra attacker and the Terriers sealed the game with an empty-net goal from Healey, her second of the game.
 
-Hope Walinski (Lincoln, R.I) recorded 17 saves for the Friars.
 
-The Terriers swept the regular-season series against Providence 3-0-0. It marks the first time Boston University swept the Friars in the regular-season since 2015-16.
 
-The loss ended an 11-game point streak in Hockey East play for Providence.
 
-The Friars dropped to 5-5 against ranked opponents this season.
