The Friars will resume competition as a varsity program for the first time since 2002.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's golf Head Coach Lou Parente announced his program's incoming class today [July 23]. The class consists of three freshmen, three juniors and two graduate transfers. The eight members of the Friar men's golf team will be freshman Will Spring (Concord, Mass.), freshman Callan Fahey (Wheaton, Ill.), freshman Liam O'Grady (Louisville, Ky.), junior Joe Halferty (Blue Bell, Pa.), junior Evan Buddenhagen (Gloucester, Mass.), junior Campbell Skelly (Charleston, S.C.), graduate student Logan Jaeger (Basking Ridge, N.J.) and graduate student Kevin Legnard (Bethel, Conn.).
Buddenhagen joins the Friars as a junior after spending two seasons at Kennesaw State University. During his time there, he finished 56th at the 2023 Pinetree Intercollegiate. In 2024, Buddenhagen finished tied for eighth in the 2024 New England Amateur. He played his prep golf at Pingree High School and IMG Academy, where he earned All-NEPSAC honors and was named EIL Player of the Year in 2022-23. He also set the ECC Member Course record (65) and was captain of Pingree's varsity golf team.
Fahey is a freshman from Wheaton-Warrenville South High School, where he set school records for most conference points and lowest scoring average in a season. A four-time DuKane All-Conference selection and 2023 Conference Player of the Year, Fahey helped his team to back-to-back conference championships (2023, 2024) and a fourth-place state finish in 2024. In 2025, Fahey advanced to the U.S. Open Final qualifying stage and also qualified for the Junior Worlds Championship at Torrey Pines.
Halferty, a junior, joins the team from the Providence College club golf program. The club team won the National Collegiate Club Golf Invitational Championship in 2024, where Halferty finished among the top five individually. A product of La Salle College High School, Halferty was a five-time Philadelphia Catholic League champion (2019-2023), a two-time All-Catholic honoree and served as team captain his senior year.
Jaeger enters the season as a graduate student after a run with the Providence College club golf team. He was co-individual champion at the National Collegiate Club Golf Association Championship in April of 2024 along with the club team winning the Invitational Championship in December. Jaeger attended Southern Methodist University before transferring to Providence College. He attended Morristown-Beard School, where he won the Golf Prep Championship in 2021 and was a state sectional medalist.
Legnard, another graduate student, also competed with the Friars' club golf program and was a part of the team's National Collegiate Club Golf Invitational title in 2024. He served as club golf president and captain, while also contributing as a practice player for the Providence women's basketball team during each of his four years as an undergrad. A multi-sport athlete from Bethel High School and the Golf Performance Center, he earned All-SWC Academic Team honors in soccer, basketball and golf.
O'Grady, a freshman from Louisville, Ky., played at Louisville Collegiate School before transferring to Trinity High School for his junior and senior years. He holds the Louisville Collegiate School scoring record (67) and was named Golf MVP in 2023. He was a four-time Academic All-State honoree and part of Trinity's 2024 State Championship runner-up team.
Skelly, a junior, spent the last two seasons at Rollins College. He carded his best round (64) at Cassique Golf Course. Skelly's top tournament finishes include tied for 25th at the Azalea Invitational and a tie for 16th at the 2025 Carolinian Amateur. He attended Porter-Gaud School and earned SCISA All-State recognition in 2021, contributing to four-consecutive state runner-up finishes.
Spring, a freshman from Concord, Mass., attended Concord Carlisle High School. In 2024, he won the Cape Cod National Massachusetts High School Invitational and was named a Boston Herald and Boston Globe All-Scholastic Athlete. A three-time Dual County League All-Star (2022-24), Spring also earned All-League MVP honors in both 2023 and 2024 and was named team MVP those same years. He helped lead Concord Carlisle to a perfect 14-0 record in league play in 2024. Spring also advanced to the Round of 16 at the Mass Junior Amateur Championship in back-to-back years (2023, 2024). Spring most recently finished 16th in the 2025 New England Amateur.
The Friars will open their 2025-26 campaign this fall, starting on September 8 at the Sacred Heart Fall Classic.
