Julius Sumpf recorded a career-high four assists.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Jonathan Fauchon (Saint-Claire, Que.) scored twice and Julius Sumpf (Munich, Germany) registered a career-high four assists as the No. 9 Providence men's hockey team registered a 6-2 opening night win vs. St. Lawrence University on Friday (October 9) at Schneider Arena. Logan Sawyer (Orangeville, Ont.) also added a career-high three assists in the win.

NOTES
- Blake Zielinski (Berlin, N.J.) opened the scoring 8:56 into the first. After a battle in the corner, Julius Sumpf found a cutting Zielinski, who beat Smith just under the bar for his first career goal.
- The Friars scored again just over three minutes later on the power play. Quinn Mantei (Weyburn, Sask.) and Tanner Adams (Northport, N.Y.) passed the puck along the blue line, whern Adams fired a low shot before Fauchon crashed the net hard and reached with one hand to poke the puck past Smith.
-Â Just 1:28 into the second period, Andrew Centrella found the back of the net during a stretch of four-on-four play. Sawyer and Sumpf picked up helpers on the sweet passing play.
- At 6:05 of the second, the Friar heavy forecheck paid off, with Zielinski intercepting a St. Lawrence breakout pass. He found Fauchon driving the far post, and converted on a backdoor tap-in snapped for his second goal of the night.
- At 11:29 of the second, freshman Ryder Cali (Penetanguishene, Ont.) buried a power-play goal from the low slot. His first career goal put the Friars up 5-0.
- St. Lawrence would get on the board at 17:34 of the second, when James Fisher scored on a rebound chance in front of the net.
- John Mustard scored on the power play 13:42 into the third period on assists from Sawyer and Sumpf. The Friar duo picked up their third and fourth on a wrist shot from Gunnar Thoreson.Â
- Providence improves to 29-23-0 all-time against the Saints (.558 winning pct.) with tonight's win.
- The Friars extended their winning streak over St. Lawrence to six games.
- Gibson Homer finished the night with 18 saves for his first-career win as a Friar.
