Women's Hockey Falls To #7/6 Northeastern, 2-0, In Hockey East Opener

The Friars opened Hockey East play 0-1-0 for the 2026-27 season.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College women's hockey team was shutout by No. 7/6 Northeastern, 2-0, on Friday, Oct. 9, at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. The Friars fall to 2-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in Hockey East, while Northeastern grabbed their first win to improve to 1-1-0 and 1-0-0. Sophomore goalkeeper Mallory Hartl (Askov, Minn.) finished the game with 30 saves.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
 

1st Period

-Northeastern killed a power play against the Friars.


-Providence scored but the goal was overturned for goalkeeper interference to keep the game scoreless


-Northeastern almost put one on the board but was ruled for offsides, keeping the game tied 0-0.


-Both teams skated scoreless the first 20 minutes of play.


-The Huskies outshot the Friars 13-11 after the first. 

2nd Period

-Northeastern struck first at the 4:28 mark as Stryker Zablocki put the Huskies up, 1-0. Her goal was unassisted and was short-handed.


-The Huskies doubled their lead shortly after at 5:56, as Zablocki put another one in the back of the net. The goal was unassisted.


-Providence killed three power plays against Northeastern.


-The Huskies killed two power play against the Friars.


-Northeastern outshot Providence 10-6 in the second.

3rd Period

-Providence killed a power play against Northeastern.

-Both teams went scoreless in the final 20 minutes.

-Providence pulled their goalkeeper with 1:50 left.

-Both Providence and Northeastern recorded nine shots in the period.
