Nate Leaman Named Spencer Penrose Award Finalist

Leaman was named Hockey East Coach of the Year for the 2025-26 season.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College men's hockey Head Coach Nate Leaman was named a finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award, given annually to the CCM/ AHCA Division I Men's Hockey Coach of the Year. Leaman was named a finalist for the Penrose award for the fifth time in his career (2011, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2026), winning the award with Union College in 2011. The Spencer Penrose Award winner will be announced on Tuesday, April 7.
 
Leaman, the all-time winningest head coach in Providence College men's hockey history and reigning Hockey East Coach of the Year, guided the Friars to their first-ever outright Hockey East Regular Season title in 2025-26. The team posted a 15-4-0 record in the second half of the regular season and finished conference play with a 18-5-1 record, winning the league by an 11-point margin. The Friars in league play scored a Hockey East high 86 goals and surrendered a league-low 46 goals.
 
On Feb. 20, Leaman recorded his 300th victory behind the bench of the Friars. He has posted a 303-185-69 record over 15 seasons at the helm of the Friars while recording 14-consecutive winning seasons, the second-longest active streak in the NCAA. The team made its second-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and finished the 2025-26 season with a 23-11-2 record.
