PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Storrs, Conn., for the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The competition will take place Thursday, May 14, through Saturday, May 16, at the Sherman Sports Complex on the University of Connecticut campus. 41 Friar athletes will travel to the conference championship.

On the women's side, junior
Maeve O'Neill (Cork, Ireland) will run in the 800 meters for the Friars. This season, O'Neill won the 800-meter invite at the Friar Invitational on April 10 in a program and facility record time of 2:02.22. At Penn Relays, the junior ran the 1,200-meter leg of the DMR in 3:13.34, the second-fastest split in Penn Relays history. At the 2026 BIG EAST Indoor Track Championships, O'Neill won the 800 meters in a BIG EAST indoor record time of 2:01.15 and was a member of the team that won the 4 x 800 meters. She was awarded BIG EAST Most Outstanding Female Track Performer for her efforts. Last year, O'Neill finished fourth at the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in the 800 meters and was a member of the 4 x 800 team that won the BIG EAST title and set a program record in 8:31.87.
Competing in the 5,000 meters will be sophomore
Anna Gardiner (Downpatrick, Ireland), freshman
Kate Currie (Christchurch, New Zealand) and senior
Jane Buckley (Cork, Ireland). Gardiner owns the top time among the group this season in the 5,000 meters after winning the Friar Invitational in a facility-record and personal-best time of 15:51.78. Currie closely followed with a personal-best time of 16:00.31 in the same race. Buckley owns a personal best of 15:41.68. At the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Gardiner placed seventh in the 5,000 meters in 16:14.70.
Senior
Cara Laverty (Derry, Ireland) will compete in the 1,500 meters. Laverty ran a season-best 4:18.44 in the 1,500 meters at Penn Relays earlier this season. She holds a personal-best time of 4:16.72 in the event. At last year's outdoor championships, Laverty finished third in the 1,500-meter final (4:18.70) and was a member of the 4 x 800 team that won the BIG EAST title and set a program record. Freshman
Gemma Galvin (Clare, Ireland) will also compete in the 1,500 meters. Galvin owns a personal-best time of 4:18.39.
On the men's side, the Friars will have five athletes competing in the 1,500 meters, including sophomore
Elliott Pugh (Tauranga, New Zealand), junior
Tyler Bartlett (Fairfield, Conn.) and freshman
Oliver Neate (Sydney, Australia). Pugh set a personal-best time at the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational on May 2, where he won the race in 3:41.04. Bartlett holds a season-best time of 3:44.34, set at Penn Relays, while Neate owns a 3:44.51 mark that he ran at Raleigh Relays to open the outdoor season.
In the 800 meters, sophomore
Thomas Breen (Providence, R.I.) will compete. On May 2, at the Jay Carisella Coaches Invitational, Breen set a personal-best time of 1:48.58 in the event. At the 2026 BIG EAST Indoor Track Championships, Breen placed fourth in the 800-meter final in 1:48.92.
In the 5,000 meters, sophomores
Cormac Dixon (Dublin, Ireland) and
Daniel Prescott (Christchurch, New Zealand) will race. Dixon holds a personal-best time of 13:57.99 while Prescott ran a personal-best at Penn Relays earlier this season in 14:00.80.
Junior
Jon Mignacca (Seekonk, Mass.), the BIG EAST indoor high jump champion, will compete in the high jump. Mignacca owns a season-best mark of 1.92 meters and a career-best of 2.05 meters. The junior became the first male field athlete in program history to win a BIG EAST title at the indoor championships earlier this year.
