Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. -- Boston University defeated the Providence College Friars, 3-2, in each team's HOCKEY EAST opener on Saturday, October 30 at Boston, Mass. Despite entering the game 30 percent on the power play, the Friars struggled in the game in man-advantage situations, going 1-10 in 60 minutes of play.

BU netted the first goal of the game with a weak shot from the left point that squirted through PC goaltender Boyd Ballard's pads at 3:07. The Terriers increased their lead to 2-0 zero when the Friars failed to clear the zone and Carl Corazzini one-timed a pass by Ballard at 10:57 of the first.

PC's Devin Rask helped get the Friars on the scoreboard when he worked the puck down low in the BU end while killing a penalty and fed the puck to Drew Omicioli, who sent the puck across the goal mouth for a one-timer by Mike Farrell that beat BU goaltender Rick DiPietro at 2:20 of the second period.

BU's Dan Cavanaugh rifled a rebound in high over a sprawled Ballard at 10:16 of the third period for whatproved to be the game winning goal. PC's Doug Sheppard wristed in a low shot with eight seconds remaining in the game on a power-play to make the score 3-2.

With the win, Boston University raised its record to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in HOCKEY EAST, while Providence fell to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in league play.

The Friars will return to action on Sunday, Nov. 7 against the University of Maine at 2:00 p.m. in Orono, Maine.
