PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown University defeated the Providence College Friars, 2-1, in men's soccer action at PC's Glay Field on Tuesday, October 5. Senior forward Mike Rudy (East Northport, N.Y.) scored both goals to seal the win for the Bears.
With 52 seconds remaining in the first half, Rudy kicked in a loose ball through a group of defenders to give the Bears a 1-0 lead. PC junior forward Kevin Jones (Westford, Mass.) scored on a breakaway at 46:21 to tie the game. Rudy notched the game winner at 81:18 when he kicked in a low shot from the top of the box that went under Friar goalkeeper Michael Cardenas (Framingham, Mass.) for the game winner.
Brown junior goalkeeper Matt Cross (Arlington, Texas) made seven saves, including several crucial stops in the second half to earn the win for Brown. PC sophomore Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) and Cardenas combined to record six stops in the loss.
With the win, Brown improved to 6-2 overall, while Providence fell to 4-5-1 overall.
Providence College returns to action on Saturday, October 9 at Notre Dame at 7:30 p.m.
