PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The University of New Hampshire Wildcats defeated the Providence College Friars, 2-1, in HOCKEY EAST action on Saturday, November 13 at PC's Schneider Arena. Sophomore Darren Haydar wristed in a one timer on the power-play at 16:17 of the second period for what proved to be the game winner for the Wildcats.
UNH took a 1-0 lead when Mike Souza scored on a slap shot from the right point at 14:46 of the second period. After Haydar's goal gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead, Doug Sheppard netted the Friars only goal of the night in a power-play situation at 18:24 of the second period.
Ty Conklin made 26 stops and earned the win in net for UNH. Boyd Ballard recorded 23 saves for the Friars.
With the win, New Hampshire raised its record to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in HOCKEY EAST play, while PC falls to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in league action.
Providence College returns to action on Nov. 19-20 in a home-and-home series against Northeastern. PC will play at NU's Matthews Arena on Nov. 19 at 7:00 p.m. The following night, the Friars will host the Huskies at Schneider Arena. Both games will begin at 7:00 p.m.
