BOSTON, Mass. -- The Providence College Friars entered their Friday night HOCKEY EAST contest against the Northeastern Huskies in need of a victory. Rookies Nolan Schaefer and Peter Fregoe provided the heroics for Providence and gave PC a 3-1 win over Northeastern at NU's Matthews Arena. Fregoe tallied two goals while Schaefer made 35 saves in his second collegiate start.

The Friars got into trouble early as they gave up a goal to the Huskies at 2:48 of the first period. Matt Keating wristed in a rebound from three feet in front of the net for what would prove to be the only goal of the period. The pesky Huskies pressured Schaefer for more in the first 20 minutes, but he shut the door recording 15 saves on 16 shots.

Fregoe tied the game for the Friars when hetook the puck end-to-end during a power play and wristed a low shot into the right corner of the net at 5:54 of the second period. Fregoe again provided the offense for the team as he took the rebound off Jason Ialongo's shot from the point and backhanded it by NU goaltender Mike Gillhooly at 18:31 for his second tally of the period.

After a tightly played third period, West Warwick's Drew Omicioli added an empty net goal at 18:51 to seal the win for the Friars.

With the win, Providence raised its record to 3-6 overall and 1-4 in HOCKEY EAST, while Northeastern fell to 3-4-2 overall and in 2-2-2 league play.

The Friars will return to action on Saturday, November 20 against Northeastern at 7:00 p.m. at PC's Schneider Arena.
