PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Senior Doug Sheppard recorded his first collegiate hat trick and helped the Providence College Friars defeat Northeastern, 4-1, in HOCKEY EAST action on Saturday, November 20 at PC's Schneider Arena.
The Friars got on the scoreboard first when Mike Lucci poked in a loose puck for his first collegiate tally at 10:58 of the first period. The Huskies evened the game in the closing minutes of the first period as Joe Mastronardi rifled a rebound with 52 second remaining.
Providence pulled ahead in the second period on Sheppard's first two tallies of the game. He netted the Friars' second goal at 2:46 and gave PC a 3-1 lead at the 11:48 mark.
The senior right wing sealed the victory for the Friars and completed his hat trick at 17:51 of the third with a power-play tally.
PC freshman netminder Nolan Schaefer completed the weekend sweep of the Huskies by making 31 saves on the night. Jason Braun recorded 32 stops for the Huskies
With the win, Providence raised its record to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in HOCKEY EAST play, while Northeastern fell to 3-5-2 overall and 2-3-2 in league action.
Providence College returns to action on Tuesday, November 23 against Cornell at PC's Schneider Arena.
