PC Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision At Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Friar volleyball team took a break from BIG EAST action on Sunday afternoon travelling crosstown to face the Brown Bears in non-league play. The Bears handed the Friars their second loss in three games taking a 3-1 decision from the Friars.

Brown's Tomo Nakanishi led the Bears with a career high 29 kills while making just five errors on the afternoon in the win.

Providence took the first game by a 15-9 margin, then lost 11-15, 14-16 and 9-15 in the final match. The loss dropped PC to 14-11 on the season while the Friars remained at 6-3 in the BIG EAST with a tournament berth all sown up.

Brown improved to 14-11 overall and remains among the Ivy League leaders with a 3-1 league mark.

The Friars were led on the afternoon by sophomore Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) who was one of four Friars in double figure kills with 26. Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.) added 17 while Heidi Filippi (Jr., Wooster, Ohio) checked in with 15 and Deb Bihday (Jr., Warwick, R.I.) added 12 in the loss.

The Friars close out the BIG EAST schedule next weekend with road games at Pittsburgh and West Virginia on November 13th and 14th. The BIG EAST Championships will be held in Pittsburgh from November 19th through the 21st with the league's top six teams participating.
