Providence, R.I. - Providence College volleyball standout Colleen Lee (Sr., Tonawanda, N.Y.) has been selected as a Second Team GTE Volleyball Academic All-America for the 1999 season as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). She becomes the first volleyball player in PC history to be chosen to the national team.
Lee has impressive for the Friars in both the classroom and on the volleyball court in her four years at Providence. A senior English major, the Tonawanda, New York native owns a 3.98 grade point average and has been selected to the Dean's List in each of her first six semesters at Providence College. She has been chosen to the BIG EAST Academic All-Star team in each of her first three seasons at PC.
On the court, Lee was a First Team All-BIG EAST selection who captained the Friars to a third place finish in the regular season, helping PC to a 16-12 overall record and an 8-3 mark in the BIG EAST. The Friars fell to Syracuse in the semi-finals of the BIG EAST Tournament. It was their first tournament appearance since 1994.
Lee has set the Providence College career record for assists with 3,964 in her career and set a single season record this year with 1,342 set ups. Her 13.16 assists per game is a PC single season record and also leads the league. One of the top servers in the nation, she also led the league with 0.64 service aces per game which ranked her seventh in the country. On the year, she has recorded 65 service aces overall which sets the PC record in that category and gives her the career mark with 190.
Lee was just one of two players from District I to make the national team as Fordham's Cindy Vojtech was selected to the First Team.
