PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The UMass-Lowell River Hawks defeated the Providence College Friars, 4-2, in HOCKEY EAST action on Saturday, Feb. 6 at PC's Schneider Arena.

UMass-Lowell led 1-0 after the first period. Tom Roleau netted the lone goal of the first 20 minutes of play when he picked up a rebound and lifted it high into the net at 16:33. PC goaltender Boyd Ballard was forced to play at the top of his game stopping 16 River Hawk shots in the first period.

Jon Coe put the Friars on the scoreboard when he tucked a rebound around UMass-Lowell goaltender Scott Fankhouser at 6:12 of the second period. UMass-Lowell regained the lead at 12:36 of the second period as Doug Nolan skated in and wristed a shot past Ballard from 10 feet in front of the net. Anthony Cappelletti increased the River Hawks' lead with a power-play goal in a five-on-three advantage at 17:13 of the second period.

Drew Omicioli brought the Friars within one goal at 1:15 when he rifled a wrist shot that trickled off Fankhouser and into the goal. However, Dan Fontas ended the Friars comeback hopes with a short-handed goal at 9:35 to seal the win for the River Hawks.
