Providence College used its two power-play opportunities to take a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of play. Doug Sheppard redirected Jason Ialongo's shot from the left point past BU goaltender Michel Larocque at 15:58 for the first goal of the game. At 17:22, the Friars capitalized on their second power play as Jon Cameron picked up a rebound, circled around the net and fired a high shot past a sprawled Larocque.
Josh MacNevin gave the Friars a 3-0 lead as he netted the only goal of the second period with a blast from the right point that beat Larocque high to the glove side at 14:42.
PC increased its lead to 4-0 when Nick Lent scored on a breakaway in a short-handed situation at 11:30 of the third period. Troy Lake one timed a shot from the right face off circle that beat Larocque high to the glove side during a power play at 12:12 of the third period for the Friars' final goal. Pat Aufiero rifled in a shot that deflected off PC goaltender Boyd Ballard's glove into the net at 16:34 to break the shutout.
Ballard recorded 14 stops in the win. Larocque registered 27 saves for the Terriers.
With the win, Providence improved to 20-16-1 overall , while Boston University finished its season with a 14-20-3 mark.
