VILLANOVA, Pa. -- Providence College defeated Villanova, 4-1, in men's BIG EAST soccer action on Monday, Sept. 20 in Villanova, Pa. Cranston's Keith Dorsey led the Friar offense with two goals.
The Friars took an early 1-0 lead when a Villanova defender deflected a shot into his own goal at 2:52. Dorsey netted his first goal of the game to put the Friars ahead, 2-0, at 67:28 as he kicked in a pass from senior Michael Eisenhut (Hanover, Mass.). Villanova junior Jim Curtin (Oreland, Pa.) scored at 70:10 to bring the Wildcats within one goal. However, PC sealed the victory with goals by Kevin Jones (Westford, Mass.) at 75:07 and Dorsey at 87:09.
PC sophomore goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) recorded three saves in the win. Villanova senior goalie Matt Malek (Dearborne, Minn.) made four saves for the Wildcats.
With the victory, Providence raised its record to 3-1-1 overall and 2-1 in BIG EAST action, while Villanova fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Providence College returns to action on Wednesday, September 22 at the University of Rhode Island at 7:00 p.m.
