Providence, R.I. - The Providence College Friars lost three straight to the University of Rhode Island in volleyball action at PC's Alumni Hall Tuesday night by 15-7, 15-8 and 16-14 scores.
The loss drops the Friars to 2-7 on the season while URI won its fifth in a row to improve to 6-3 on the year.
Providence was led by sophomores Sarah Katinger (Stratford, Conn.) and Annie Cella (Burr Ridge, Ill.) who had 14 and 11 kills respectively. Senior setter Colleen Lee (Tonawanda, N.Y.) had 40 of the Friars' 42 assists on the night.
Rhode Island was led by senior Christie Wilson who recorded a game high 23 kills in 39 attempts. Wilson notched the 600th kill of her career in the second match and now has 613 in four seasons with the Rams. Senior Nicole Noya added 11 kills while sophomores Amy Knebel and Yolanda Bogacz had ten each. URI's top setter, freshman Julia Schlecht, led the Rams with 46 of the team's 57 assists on the night.
The Friars return to action on Saturday, September 25th when they host Central Connecticut and Coppin State at Alumni Hall beginning at 1:00 p.m.
