MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- West Virginia University defeated Providence College, 2-0, in men's BIG EAST soccer action on Saturday, Sept. 25 in Morgantown, W.Va. It marked the first time the Friars have been shutout this season.
West Virginia freshman Guido Cristofori scored on a breakaway for what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 31:25 mark. Mike Ianelli tallied the Mountaineers' second goal at 51:40 to seal the win for WVU.
West Virginia goalkeeper Mish Sapsai made three saves in the win. Danny Glynn recorded four saves in the loss.
With the victory, West Virginia raised its record to 7-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 3-3-1 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Providence College returns to action on Wednesday, September 29 against UConn at PC's Glay Field at 3:30 p.m.
