PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The seventh-ranked University of Connecticut Huskies defeated the Providence College Friars, 3-1, in men's BIG EAST soccer action at Providence, R.I. on Wednesday, September 29. UConn senior forward Luis Arauz recorded a hat trick to lead the Huskies' offense.
Arauz opened the scoring at the 19:24 mark when he broke down the right side and chipped a high shot over Friar sophomore goalkeeper Danny Glynn. Arauz struck again at 29:13 on a break away as he blasted in a shot from the left side. PC junior Kevin Jones recorded the Friars' only goal when he booted in a shot from the top of box at 37:40. Arauz sealed the win for UConn with his third tally of the game at 54:20.
UConn goalkeeper Bryheem Hancock made three stops for the Huskies. Glynn recorded one save in the loss.
With the win, Connecticut improved to 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the BIG EAST, while Providence fell to 3-4-1 overall and 2-3 in league play.
Providence College returns to action on Saturday, October 2 against Pittsburgh at PC's Glay Field at 1:00 p.m.
