PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College and Fairfield University played to a 1-1 overtime tie in men's soccer action at Providence, R.I. on Tuesday, September 7.
After a scoreless first half, the Friars got on the scoreboard when sophomore back Kempes Corbally (Dublin, Ireland) scored on a direct kick from the top of the box. Eight minutes later, Fairfield forward Ryan Miosek (Cooperstown, N.Y.) was pulled down in the box and the Stags were awarded a penalty kick. Senior midfielder Barry O'Driscoll (Stockport, England) converted on the penalty kick to even the game at 1-1 at the 58:14 mark.
In 30 minutes of overtime, Providence controlled the play outshooting the Stags, 7-2. However, Fairfield sophomore goaltender Roger Noll (Auckland, New Zealand) made several key saves to preserve the tie. Noll finished the game with 12 stops.
Friar goalkeepers sophomore Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) and freshman Michael Cardenas (Framingham, Mass.) combined to make four stops for PC.
With the tie, Providence is now 1-0-1 overall while Fairfield moves to 0-1-1.
Providence College returns to action on Sunday, September 12 at Harvard University at 1:00 p.m.
