PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- UMass-Lowell scored five goals in the third period to earn a 7-2 win against Providence College in HOCKEY EAST action on Friday, January 28 at PC's Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. UMass-Lowell had seven different players score in the team's seventh win of the season.

The River Hawks got on the scoreboard first when Ed McGrane broke down the left wing and fired a wrist shot past Friar netminder Nolan Schaefer at 4:54 of the first period. Josh MacNevin tied the game for the Friars with a blast from the point during a power play at 14:46 of the first. UMass regained the lead in the closing minutes of the first period as Chris Gustafson scored on a slap shot from the blueline with 19 seconds remaining in the period.

After a scoreless second period, the River Hawks erupted for five goals in the final period, including three on the power play. UMass-Lowell's goal were scored by Tom Rouleau at 1:10, Craig Brown at 4:34, Yorick Treille at 7:19, Josh Allison at 8:03 and John Campbell at 16:54. PC's final goal was netted by Mike Farrell on the power play at the 16:18 mark.

UMass goaltender Cam McCormick recorded 20 stops in the win. Schaefer made 24 saves before being replaced by Jamie Vanek with 12:41 remaining in the game. Vanek allowed two goals and made four stops.

With the win, UMass-Lowell improved to 7-16-1 overall and 3-10-1 in HOCKEY EAST, while Providence fell to 12-13-1 overall and 4-10 in league action.

Providence College will return to action on Friday, February 4 against HOCKEY EAST foe Northeastern at Providence at 7:00 p.m.
