DURHAM, N.H. -- The Providence College Friars were defeated by the New Hampshire Wildcats, 4-1, in college hockey action on Saturday, November 11 at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.
The Wildcats got on the scoreboard first when Jefff Haydar took a feed from Johnny Rogers and wristed a shot high into the net at 9:28 of the first period. David Busch also assisted on the play. The Friars had their best scoring chance of the period with less than one minute to play. While on the power play, PC's Devin Rask tooka feed from Jon DiSalvatore and fired it past the sprawling UNH netminder Ty Conklin. Rask's shot clanked off the post and the scored remained 1-0, New Hampshire, after one period of play.
The second period was a mirror image of last night's battle at PC' Schneider Arena as neither team was able to muster a goal in second. The Friars were outshot by a 9-4 margin in the second period.
The Friars tied the game at the 9:23 mark of the third period on Devin Rask's eighth goal of the season, a power play goal, assisted by Jay Leach and Matt Libby. Leach fired a slap shot from the point that deflected off Conklin's pads and Rask fired home the rebound, tying the game at 1-1. The Wildcats regained the lead at the 10:40 mark as Garrett Stafford tallied a power play goal, his first goal of the season. UNH opened a two-goal lead three minutes later, as Johnny Rogers beat Schaefer for the third time of the night as the Wildcats extended their lead to 3-1. At the 17:10 mark, UNH notched the game's final goal from Mick Mounsey, the Wildcats third of the period.
Conklin recorded 20 saves for the Wildcats in the victory, while Schaefer stopped 27 shots for the Friars.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 6-3-1 overall, while Providence dropped to 5-2-1 on the season.
