PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College sophomore goaltender Nolan Schaefer of Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan was named ITECH Goaltender of the Month on Thursday, November 30. It marked the first time in his career that Schaefer has earned ITECH Goaltender of the Month honors.

Schaefer received his Goaltender of the Month honor after posting a 3-1-1 record with a 1.96 goals against average and a .944 save percentage in five games. He recorded a 5-3 victory over Maine on November 3, a 3-1 win over New Hampshire on November 10 and 3-1 triumph over Northeastern on November 17. Schaefer's only loss was a 4-1 defeat at New Hampshire on November 11. On November 24, he stopped 37 shots in a 1-1 tie at Colorado College. All five of his starts in the month of November came against nationally-ranked opponents.

In seven games this season, Schaefer has posted a 5-1-1 record, 1.55 goals against average and a .954 save percentage.

It marks only the second time a Providence player has earned the Goaltender of the Month honor. Senior Boyd Ballard received the award during the 1997-98 season.

Schaefer is the son of Peter and Tracy Schaefer. Prior to attending Providence, he played for the Nipawin Hawks of the SJHL.

Providence, 7-2-3, will return to action on Friday, December 1 against Merrimack at Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
