Providence, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars were defeated by the Brown University Bears 4-0, in a non-conference women's hockey game, on Sunday, Feb. 20 at Browns Meehan Auditorium.
Brown opened the scoring at 11:21 of the first period, Kathleen Kauth took a shot from the right side of the net, that deflected off a Providence defender Stacy Kreger's (Indianapolis, Ind.) stick, past goaltender Sara DeCosta (Warwick, R.I.).
At 17:24 of the second, Brown's Christina Sorbara took a shot from the left face-off circle, beating DeCosta low to the stick side, Jill Graat assisted on the play. Less then a minute later, Brown struck again, as Graat deflected in a Jordan Jiskra shot, a power play goal, extending the Bears' lead to 3-0.
Sorbara finished the scoring at 17:41 of the third, her second goal of the day, assisted by Cara Gardner and Patricia Long.
Brown's Ali Brewer stopped 32 shots in the shutout victory, while DeCosta recorded 35 saves in the loss.
With the loss, Providence drops to 17-8-3, while Brown improves to 17-3-3. Providence College will return to action on Feb. 26, versus Princeton University at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m.
