PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Boston College defeated Providence College, 3-0, in men's BIG EAST soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Wednesday, September 13.
Boston College took a 1-0 lead when sophomore Casey Schmidt (Newbury Park, Calif.) headed in a corner kick at 17:33. The Eagles increased their lead to 2-0 on a breakaway goal by sophomore Bobby Thompson (Framingham, Mass.) at the 32:26 mark. Freshman Ramon Smith (Brockton, Mass.) took advantage of a mistake by the Friar defense and broke in all alone to score BC's final goal of the game at 42:56.
Boston College goalkeeper senior Chris Hamblin (Bristol, England) recorded two saves in the shutout. Providence goalkeeper junior Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) made six stops for the Friars.
With the win, Boston College improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST action, while Providence dropped to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Providence College returns to action on Sunday, September 17 at Pittsburgh at noon.
