PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The University of Pittsburgh defeated Providence College, 2-1, in overtime in men's BIG EAST soccer action on Sunday, September 17 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Pittsburgh senior Ben Garry (Rochester, Minn.) recorded the first goal of the game when he headed in a shot past Friar goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) at 30:28.
The score remained 1-0 for the final 59 minutes before the Friars' senior Kevin Jones (Westford, Mass.) scored with 12 seconds remaining in regulation to even the game at 1-1.
At 9:57 of the first overtime, Mark Sikora (Erie, Pa.) kicked in a rebound to the give the 18th-ranked Panthers the win.
With the victory, Pittsburgh raised its record to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 1-5 overall and 1-2 in league action.
Providence College returns to action on Friday, September 22 against Villanova at PC's Glay Field at 3:30 p.m.
