PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College and Villanova played to a 2-2 tie in men's BIG EAST soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Friday, September 22.

The Friars took a 1-0 lead when junior Tom Blesso (Billerica, Mass.) kicked in a rebound at the 30:26 mark for the only goal of the first half. Just three minutes into the second half, Villanova freshman Tom Maciejak (Madison, Conn.) scored the first of his two goals to even the game at 1-1. Graduate student Derek Cobbe (Dublin, Ireland) regained the lead for the Friars when he redirected a shot past Villanova sophomore goalkeeper Sean Teesdale (Blue Bell, Pa.) at 63:59. Maciejak's second goal of the half proved to be the final goal of the game as he scored through a scrum with only 1:52 remaining in regulation.

The Friars outshot the Wildcats, 7-3, in the two overtime periods but neither team was able to score.

Teesdale (Blue Bell, Pa.) played a strong game for the Wildcats, recording 13 saves in 120 minutes of action. Providence goalkeeper junior Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) made five stops for the Friars.

With the tie, Villanova's record moved to 2-4-1 overall and 0-2-1 in BIG EAST action, while Providence's record changed to 1-5-1 overall and 1-2-1 in league play.

Providence College returns to action on Sunday, September 24 against Rutgers at PC's Glay Field at 3:00 p.m.
