PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Rutgers University defeated Providence College, 3-0, in men's BIG EAST soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Sunday, September 24.
The Scarlet Knights scored their first goal of the game off a penalty kick by freshman Sherif El Bialy (Cairo, Egypt) at the 18:10 mark. Sophomore Mike Walsh (Chatham, N.J.) added to Rutgers' lead with a blast from the top of the box at 43:39. Junior Dustin Sheppard (Belle Mead, N.J.) scored the Scarlet Knight's final goal on a penalty kick at 52:20.
Rutgers sophomore goalkeeper Ricky Zinter (Penfield, N.Y.) made three saves in the shutout. Friar junior goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) recorded five stops in the loss.
With the win, Rutgers improved to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 1-6-1 overall and 1-3-1 in league play.
Providence College returns to action on Saturday, September 30 against Georgetown at PC's Glay Field at 2:00 p.m.
