Ohio State Defeats Providence Women's Hockey, 4-3

The Providence College Women's hockey team was defeated, 4-3, by Ohio State University on Sunday, November 18 at PC's Schneider Arena.

The game marked the return of former Providence College Head Coach and PC alumnus, Jackie Barto who coached women's hockey at PC from 1994-1998.

Ohio State's sophomore defenseman Emma Laaksonen scored two goals, including what proved to be game winner to lift the Buckeyes to their third straight victory.

The Friars opened the scoring in the first period as freshman forward Carrie Holldorf (Glenwood City, Wis.) scored off an assist from sophomore defenseman Meredith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa) at the 13:07 mark. The Buckeyes tied the game at 1-1 as sophomore Jeanne Chapple scored with 20 seconds remaining in the first period. The Friars regained the lead just 21 seconds into the second period as junior forward Jenn Butch tallied her team leading fifth goal of the season. Laaksonen scored the first of her two goals at the 6:49 mark of the second period to tie the game at 2-2. OSU took the lead for good as freshman Jeni Creary scored her 12th goal of the season at the 11:14 mark of the second period. Holldorf also scored a late power-play goal, but it was not enough as the Friars were dealt their first home loss of the season.

The Friars outshot the Buckeyes 27-16. OSU's Melissa Glaser finished with 24 saves, while PC's Amy Quinlan and Amy Thomas combined to make 12 saves.

The Friars fell to 3-5-2, 1-2-1 ECAC East while the Buckeyes improved to 5-5-2, 2-4-2 WCHA.

The Friars return to action on Sunday, November 25 as they travel to Cambridge, Mass. to face Harvard.
