ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -- Duquesne University defeated Providence College, 1-0, in overtime in men's soccer action on Saturday, September 1 at the St. Bonaventure/addidas Soccer Classic in St. Bonaventure, N.Y. Junior David Gingrich (Export, Pa.) scored the game winning goal at 8:03 of the first overtime to give Duquesne the win.
Both teams were held scoreless through regulation. Gingrich broke the 0-0 deadlock when he converted on a cross pass from Junior John Bechke (Strongsville, Ohio) with a blast past PC senior goalie Danny Glynn (Manchester, England).
Duquesne goalkeeper junior Terry McNelis (Reading, Pa.) made three saves in the win. Glynn recorded three stops for the Friars.
With the victory, Duquesne raised its record to 1-0 overall, while Providence fell to 0-1.
Providence College returns to action on Sunday, September 2 against St. Bonaventure in the final game of the addidas Classic at 2:30 p.m.
