The Providence College women's hockey team defeated the University of Connecticut, 4-0, on Saturday, January 26 in an ECAC Eastern League game at Schneider Arena. The win was the fifth consecutive victory for the Friars who have gone unbeaten in their last seven games.

Sophomore Sarah Youlen (Potsdam, N.Y.) broke a scoreless tie at the 12:52 mark of the second period to give the Friars the only goal they would need. Sophomore Kelli Halcisak (Grosse Ile, Mich.) skated passed two UConn defenders and fired a wrist shot, which was saved by Huskies' freshman goaltender Shannon Murphy (Mapleville, R.I.). However, Youlen capatilized on the rebound for her fourth goal of the season.

Freshman Hilary Greaves (Cranston, R.I.) gave the Friars a 2-0 lead with 14 seconds remaining in the second period as she tallied her eighth goal of the season. In the third period freshman Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) scored at the 2:18 mark for a 3-0 PC lead. Sophomore Meredith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa) capped off the scoring with a high slap shot, which bounced off the cross bar and into the net. For Roth, it was her team leading fifth power play goal of the season.

PC outshot UConn, 39-13. Murphy made 35 saves in the loss, while Amy Thomas (Austin, Texas) stopped 13 shots to earn her second career shutout.

With their fifth straight win, the Friars improved to 11-8-3 overall and 6-4-2 in the ECAC Eastern League. UConn fell to 10-12-2 overall and 7-6-1 in league play.

PC is back in action on Sunday, January 27 as it hosts ninth ranked Wisconsin at PC's Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m.
