BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Providence College defeated Virginia Tech, 1-0, in BIG EAST men's soccer action on Saturday, October 5 in Blacksburg, Va.
For the Friars, it marked their first win ever against the Hokies and the first time they have won a BIG EAST game on the road since 1999.
PC freshman Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) scored the only goal of the game when he kicked in a centering pass from 35 yards out at the 10:15 mark.
Friar sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) made four stops in his second shutout of the season.
With the win, Providence improved to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in BIG EAST action, while Virginia Tech fell to 5-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 in league play.
Providence College returns to action on Wednesday, October 9 against Connecticut at 7:00 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
