Providence College To Honor Retired Army Captain Thomas Murphy

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- As part of military week, Providence College will honor retired Captain Thomas Murphy, a former member of the Army ROTC Program, on Friday, November 22 at Schneider Arena after the first period of the men's hockey game between Providence and Merrimack.

Mr. Murphy was awarded the Bronze Star with "V" device for valor for his actions in Operation Anaconda, which took place March 2-11, 2002 in the snowy eastern mountains of Afghanistan.

Mr. Murphy graduated from Providence College in 1997. He served as a Field Artillery Officer at Fort Hood, Texas and Fort Campbell, Ky. He was later assigned to the Army's 101st Airborne Division for Operation Anaconda.

Mr. Murphy currently resides in Colorado with is wife Nora.
