Box Score

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated, 2-1, at No. 14 St. Cloud State in non-league action on Friday, January 17 at the National Hockey Center. Derek Eastman scored both goals to lead the Huskies.

After a scoreless first period, the Huskies took a 1-0 at 2:17 of the second period on the power play as Eastman ripped a slap shot that eluded Friar freshman netminder Bobby Goepfert (Kings Park, N.Y.), who was screened in front of the net. The Friars had a chance to tie the game, but failed to convert on a 5-on-3 power play. Moments later Friar sophomore Chris Chaput (Pawtucket, R.I.) nearly scored, but his shot on a breakaway hit the post. But, the Friars finally tied the game at 1-1 as senior Devin Rask Devin Rask (Parkside, Sask.) tallied his 11th goal of the season on a 4-on-3 power play at 13:43. The Friars were again victimized by the power play as Eastman scored his second goal evening and his second of the season on the man advantage with only three seconds remaining in the second period for a 2-1 advantage.

The Friars had an opportunity to tie the game late in the third period as they went on the power play at 16:48, but Huskies goaltender Jake Moreland held off the come back attempt. Moreland made 38 saves and Goepfert stopped 24 shots in the loss.

The Friars and the Huskies will play again on Saturday, January 18 at the National Hockey Center at 8:00 p.m. EST.
