PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with Boston College in BIG EAST action on Wednesday, October 1 at Providence, R.I. With the tie, the Friars extended their unbeaten streak to three consecutive games.

Providence opened the scoring with four minutes remaining in the first half when sophomore Ian Wexler (Minnetonka, Minn.) scored on a partial breakaway. Wexler took a long pass from freshman David Chase (Morris Plains, N.J.) and chipped a low shot over the BC goalkeeper. The Eagles tied the game with 22 seconds remaining in the first half on Neil Krause's fourth goal of the season. Krause scored off a header from a throw in.

Each team had several chances to earn the win in regulation and overtime. Providence outshot BC, 7-5, in the final 65 minutes of the game.

Friar junior goalkeeper Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) made seven saves in the tie. Mike Cardenas made six saves for Boston College.

With the tie, Providence moved to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1-1 in BIG EAST action, while Boston College moved to 4-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in league play.

Providence College returns to action on Saturday, October 4 at Georgetown at 1:00 p.m.
