PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College women's soccer team defeated the Seton Hall Pirates, 1-0, on Sunday, October 19 at Providence, R.I. Junior BriAnne Bruni (Bristol, Conn.) scored the only goal of the game to give the Friars their sixth victory of the season.
After a scoreless first half in which Providence outshot the Pirates, 8-7, PC got on scoreboard quickly in the second half. Just 1:31 into the second half, Bruni took a pass from freshman Leah Vieira (Rochester, N.Y.) and blasted a shot from outside the box that sailed over Seton Hall goalkeeper Buffy Wojichiehowski for what would prove to be the game-winning goal.
Friar senior goalkeeper Caroline Haines (Stillwater, Minn.) made nine saves and registered her sixth shutout of the season. It also marked the 18th shutout of her collegiate career.
Seton Hall goalkeeper Buffy Wojiciehowski recorded seven saves in the loss.
With the win, Providence improved to 6-6-3 overall , while Seton Hall fell to 4-9-1 overall.
Providence College returns to action on Friday, October 24 against Virginia Tech at PC's Glay Field at 3:00 p.m.
