The Providence College women's ice hockey team skated to a 1-1 tie with Northeastern on October 23 at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I..
Junior Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) opened the scoring on a power play late in the first period when goaltender Chanda Gunn was unable to control her rebound. Earning assists on the goal were junior Hilary Greaves (Cranston, R.I.) and senior Meredith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa). Northeastern mounted a strong attack halfway through the second and tied the score at 1-1 on a goal by Marie Desrosiers. Neither team was able to generate much pressure in the overtime as they combined for five shots on goal.
Sophomore Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) started the game in net for the Friars and made 14 saves as Providence outshot Northeastern, 47-15. With the tie the Friars move to 1-0-2 overall on the season and 0-0-1 in HOCKEY EAST, while Northeastern moves to 1-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in HOCKEY EAST.
Providence returns to action on Friday, October 31 at 7:00 p.m. as they travel to Hanover, N.H. to take on the No. 2 ranked Big Green of Dartmouth.
