LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Loyola Marymount, 56-45, on Friday, November 28 at the LMU - Furama Hotel Thanksgiving Classic in Los Angeles, Calif. Junior guard Keisha Blackwell (Baltimore, Md.) led the Friars with 13 points in the loss, while freshman guard Jill Furstenburg (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) added 10 points.

Providence trailed Loyola Marymount, 28-14, at halftime. The Friars struggled from the floor in the half, as the team connected on just five of their 21 attempts from the field for a shooting percentage of 23.8-percent. The Lions shot 34.6-percent from the floor on nine-of-26 shooting.

Loyola Marymount pushed its 14-point halftime lead to 21 (40-19), as the Lions opened second half with a 12-5 scoring run through the first 4:18 of action. As the two teams traded baskets, PC still trailed by 21 points (44-23) with 12:59 remaining. At the 12:21 mark, Furstenburg scored a field goal to spark a Friars scoring run that would bring Providence within eight points (49-41) with 4:38 remaining in the game. The run covered a span of 7:43, and PC outscored the Lions 16-5. During the run, Furstenburg scored eight of her 10 total points on the evening. Blackwell added four points in the come-back effort. It proved to be as close as the Friars would get as Loyola Marymount closed the game out with a 7-4 run to make the final score 56-45.

In the second half, PC outscored Loyola Marymount, 31-28. The Friars fared much better from the floor as they connected on 13-of-30 attempts for a 43.3-percent shooting percentage in the half. Providence shot 35.3-percent (18-51) for the game.

Adrianne Slaughter scored a game-high 15 points for the Lions in the victory and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Kate Murray chipped in 13 points for LMU, who improves to 2-1 on the season.

Providence College (1-2) will face Oregon State in the consolation game of the LMU - Furama Hotel Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday, November 29 at 6:00 p.m. (EST). Oregon State fell to Arkansas, 58-50, in the first game of the Classic.
