LOS ANGELES, CALIF. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Oregon State, 60-50, in the consolation game of the LMU - Furama Hotel Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday, November 29 in Los Angeles, Calif. Senior forward Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) scored a team-high 13 points to lead the Friars, while freshman Jill Furstenburg (Whitehouse Station, N.J.) added nine points on the night.

At halftime, Oregon State held a three-point advantage, 23-20. Providence was led by Furstenburg's seven first-half points, while Mandy Close and Krystal Turner each scored nine for Oregon State in the opening 20 minutes. The Friars, who never led in the half, cut the Beaver's lead to one-point with 5:37 on the clock (19-18) on consecutive three-point baskets by Furstenburg and freshman guard Janell Fabor (Clifton, N.J.). Providence would only score one more basket during the half, while Oregon State connected on two field goals to reach the 23-20 halftime score. Providence held Oregon State scoreless during the final 4:47 of the first half.

In the second half, PC took its first lead of the game, 29-28, at the 16:16 mark as it opened the half on a 9-5 run fueled Freeburg. Freeburg scored 11 of her team-leading 13 points in the second half. OSU quickly regained the lead on a layup by Hollye Chapman.at the 16-minute mark. The two teams traded baskets for the next three minutes and PC held its only other lead of the game (33-32) with 12:40 remaining. At that point, OSU went on a 7-0 run to take a 40-33 lead with 9:18 on the clock. Providence rallied and cut the deficit to one point on two occasions, with the latest effort coming at the 4:37 mark as the score read 47-46 in favor of OSU. Oregon State then closed the game out on a 13-4 scoring run to claim the 10-point victory.

For Oregon State, Turner finished the game with 17 points, while Close ended up with 16 points. Turner also pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds to record a double-double. Leilani Estavan finished the night with 14 points in the victory and added a team-high four assists.

Gayle Nwafili led the Friars on the boards with seven rebounds and she added five points and three assists. Junior Keisha Blackwell (Baltimore, Md.) handed out a game-high five assists and added six points, three rebounds and two steals.

Providence College (1-3) will travel to Hanover, N.H. to take on Dartmouth in non-conference action on Tuesday, December 2 at 7:00 p.m.
