Box Score

ORONO, Maine.-- Senior defenseman Cliff Loya (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored his first goal of the season at 9:58 of the third period to tie the game as the University of Maine and Providence College skated to a 2-2 tie on Saturday night in Hockey East action at Alfond Arena.

After a scoreless first period, the Black Bears got on the board first when Providence attempted to clear the puck and it took a funny bounce of the boards. Robert Liscak (Skalica, Slovakia) gained possession of the puck and beat Friar netminder Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan).

Providence tied the game at 1-1 when James Pemberton (Cumberland, R.I.) notched his first career goal on a shot from the blue line. Peter Zingoni (Newtown, Conn.) dished out an assist on the goal. The Friars took a 2-1 lead at 7:33 of the third period. Peter Zingoni took an initial shot that UMaine netminder Frank Doyle (Guelph, Ontario) stopped, but Jonathan Goodwin (Taunton, Mass.) fired the rebound past Doyle for his fourth goal of the season.

The Black Bears tied the game just over 2:20 later when Troy Barnes (Pembroke, Ontario) found Paul Lynch (Peabody, Mass.) at his own blueline. Lynch connected with Loya at center ice who skated to the middle of the right faceoff circle and beat Schaefer with a wrist shot.

Doyle kept the game tied by stopping a breakaway just minutes later. He finished the game with 27 saves and is now 9-1-5 on the season. Schaefer made 22 saves and is 11-6-1 on the year.

Providence outshot Maine 29-24 in the game. Each team was 0-2 on the power play.
