ORONO, Maine - The Providence College women's soccer team was shutout, 5-0, by the University of Maine on Sunday, August 29, 2004 in Orono, Maine. The Friars return home to Providence, R.I. with a 1-1 overall record. Maine dominated play, out-shooting PC, 30-5. Marie-Andree Canuel scored four of the Black Bears' five goals on just four shots on goal. Heather Hathorn netted one goal and added one assist in the victory. Freshman Laura Elfers (Deer Park, N.Y.) made nine saves in goal for the Friars and allowed four goals in 69:45 of action. Elfers was replaced by Ashley Fedyshyn (Lincroft, N.J.) late in the second half. In just over 20 minutes of action in the cage, Fedyshyn made three saves and allowed one goal. Maine's Jasmine Phillips recorded the shutout in goal with one save. Providence College (1-1) will return home to Glay Field in Providence, R.I. to face Northeastern in non-conference action on Wednesday, September 1. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
