Women's Soccer Falls to New Hampshire, 4-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (September 24, 2004) -- The Providence College women's soccer team was defeated by the University of New Hamsphire, 4-2, in non-conference action on Friday, September 24 at Glay Field in Providence, R.I.

The Wildcats took an early lead with the first goal of the game scored by senior Chiara Best assisted by senior Shannon Oltman in the first 11 seconds. Senior Veronica Bakke (Alesund, Norway) scored in the 27th minute from an assist by freshman Danielle Wieneke (Plattsburgh, N.Y.). For Bakke, it marks her fourth goal of the season, and eighth in her career.

In the second half, Best scored her second goal of the game from an assist by junior Julie Wernig. The Friars responded in the 70th minute with a goal by senior Maura Robertson (Wellesley, Mass.) with an assist by classmate Lauren Ritchie (Sayville, N.Y.), knotting the scoring at 2-2. Two minutes later Adriana Gonzalez-Medina scored from an assist by senior Jacquelyn Kendall at the 72:10 mark. The Wildcats never looked back after freshman Rhyan Radack assisted junior Ashlee Cieslak for a goal at 81:36, ending the game 4-2.

PC freshman goalkeeper Laura Elfers (Cumberland, R.I.) recorded seven saves in 90 minutes of play, while Liz MacKay posted two saves on the night. New Hampshire outshot Providence 15-10.

Providence will return to home action on Friday, Ocotber 1 at 4:00 when they host Georgetown in BIG EAST play at PC's Glay Field.
