PROVIDENCE, R.I. (January 16, 2005) -- The Providence College women's hockey team skated to a tie with Connecticut, 3-3, on January 16, at Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I. Senior Danielle Bourgette (Anaheim, Calif.) posted her first goal of the season that tied the game in the third period.
Natalie Vibert scored first for the Huskies at 14:37 of the first period. Alicia Ramolla was credited with the solo assist. Sophomore Sonny Watrous (Albuquerque, N.M.) tied the game, 1-1, at 17:01. Freshman Jenna Keilch (Clinton Township, Mich.) and senior Emily Gryp assisted on the play.
Connecticut's Shannon Connolly scored the lone goal in the second period with assist from Tiffany Owens and Megan McLeod.
At 2:39 of the third period, Alicia Ramolla recorded her first goal of the season that gave the Huskies a 3-2 advantage. Connolly tallied her eighth assist on the play.
The Friars started their comeback midway through the third period when Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) tallied her 12th goal of the season from Watrous and Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.). Bourgette slapped a shot from the blue line that from a pass by Thatcher that slipped past UConn's netminder Shannon Murphy. Bourgette posted her first game-tying goal of the season that tied the game, 3-3.
The Friars four shots in the overtime period went unanswered.
Amy Thomas (Austin, Texas) recorded 22 saves, while Shannon Murphy posted a game-high 44.
Providence continues HOCKEY EAST play and will host Northeastern on Saturday, January 22 at 2:00 p.m.
