Volleyball Downed By Peahens, 3-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (4-21) lost to Saint Peter's College (10-10) by the score of 3-1, in action at PC's Mullaney Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Friars lost by game scores of 30-18, 18-30, 30-25 and 30-26. Providence senior captain Annie Fiorvanti (Northport, N.Y.) notched her second triple-double of the year with a team-high 33 assists, 15 digs and 10 kills.

In the first game, Saint Peter's jumped out to an early 5-1 lead. The Peahens then surged ahead to a 13-4 advantage forcing PC to call its first timeout. As the match resumed, Saint Peter's went on another run and closed out the first game, 30-19.

The second game saw PC get off to a quick start as the Friars jumped out to an early 7-3 lead. The Friars extended their lead to 14-10, and held a 24-14 edge when Saint Peter's called its first timeout. The Friars held on for the 30-18 win.

Game three was pretty even as both teams battled back and forth. SPC held an early 15-11 lead. The Peahens then closed it out to win, 30-25. Game four was close as well and saw the squads tied early, 6-6. Saint Peter's then went ahead with a 6-2 run to lead, 12-8. The Friars hung around though, and trailed by four, 19-14 mid-way through the game. The Peahens took another lead, 26-20, but the Friars would not go away. Trailing 27-22, the Friars went on a run to cut it to three, 27-24, forcing SPC into a timeout. With freshman Aida Cadres (Los Angeles, Calif.) on the serve, PC cut it to one, 27-26. SPC then won the next three points, to win the game and match, 30-26.

For the match, PC had three players total double-digit kill totals including senior Allison Baker (Glastonbury, Conn.) who had a team-high 14. Freshman Nonie Ferguson (Davie, Fla.) also played well with 11 kills, while classmate Amanda Little (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) had a match-high 24 digs. As a team, PC hit .117.

Providence volleyball returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 22nd. The Friars will host Quinnipiac and it will be Senior Day. Fans are encourage to arrive 15 minutes early to catch a brief pre-match ceremony.
