PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College volleyball freshman libero Amanda Little (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) was named the Division I National Independent Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week today for her performance this past week. The award marks the second time this season she has been cited accordingly.

Little averaged a team-leading 6.71 digs per game and totaled 94 digs in five matches. She also helped lead PC to a pair of victories. In the 3-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 28th, Little had a team-high 18 digs. She followed that performance with team-best 34-dig effort at Hartford on Sept. 30th. Little finished off the week with a match-high 25 digs over just three games in PC's 3-0 win over St. Francis (N.Y.) on Oct. 2.

Additionally, Little moved back onto the top-30 on the NCAA digs leader board today. She is ranked 25th among all Division I collegiate volleyball student-athletes. Little also leads the nation with 392 digs overall.

"Amanda adds a whole new dimension to our team," said Head Coach Margot Royer. "It's a tremendous bonus that she is only a freshman and will be with us for the next three years. Additionally, her performance in the class room (as a Biochemistry major) is equal to her excellence on the court."

For the season, Little has totaled a team-leading 392 digs to average 5.37 over 73 games and 20 matches. Her total is the highest PC single-season mark since Sarah Katinger '02 tallied 437 in 2000. Little is on pace to surpass the Friars single-season dig record of 464 set in 1998.

Having won two of its last four contests, Providence volleyball (3-17) heads to Central Connecticut for its next match. The Friars play at CCSU on Wednesday, Oct. 5th at 7:00 p.m. Follow the contest live online via Gametracker, or by .
