PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College volleyball team (6-24) heads to Colorado this weekend for the Division I National Independent Volleyball Championships hosted by the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo. The matches will take place at the Butler-Hancock Sports Pavilion. Providence will play five matches beginning on Thursday, Nov. 10 with a 3:00 p.m. EST match up against South Dakota State (13-15). Thursday evening the Friars will face North Dakota State (2-29) with a 9:00 p.m. EST slated beginning. On Friday, PC will face Utah Valley State (13-11) at 6:00 p.m. EST, while Saturday's competition could include the following opponents: Texas Pan-American (10-14), Texas A&M - Corpus Christi (11-12), Northern Colorado (12-11) or IPFW (20-5).
The Friars are led by senior captains Annie Fiorvanti (Northport, N.Y.) and Allison Baker (Glastonbury, Conn.). Fiorvanti leads the team with 723 assists to average 6.76 per game. The Empire State native also averages 2.63 digs per game and 1.56 kills per game.
Baker leads the Friars with 358 kills to average 3.31 kills per game. She also enters the tournament averaging 2.63 digs per game, and has garnered three All-Tournament selections this season.
Freshman Amanda Little (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) leads the team with 570 digs to average 5.28 per game, a figure that ranks No. 26 in the nation.
As a team, Providence has won two of its last four outings, and posted four 3-0 shutouts on the year.
