PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

On Sunday, September 11, the Providence College women's soccer team defeated Quinnipiac by a score of 2-1. Freshman Megan Mancarella (Rochester, N.Y.) assisted on both first-half goals, leading the Friars to their fifth consecutive win over the Bobcats dating back to September 7, 2001.

Providence's senior Kathryn Mahoney (Narragansett, R.I.) got things started just ten minutes into the game when she headed Mancarella's cross past Quinnipiac's Sarah Lusto to give PC a 1-0 advantage. Prior to coming to Providence, Lusto, who has played every minute in each of the Bobcats' four games, had not allowed any first-half goals.

PC got on the board again less than seven minutes later when freshman Kelly Determan (San Diego, Calif.) sent a pass from Mancarella to the upper left corner, netting her second goal of the season and putting Providence up, 2-0. Quinnipiac's only goal of the game came at the 36:41 mark, when Cristina Salamone was awarded a penalty kick that she put past PC's sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Fedyshyn (Lincroft, N.J.).

The Friars limited Quinnipiac to just one shot in the second half of the play, while outshooting the Bobcats by a 16-4 margin overall.

With the win, Providence improves to 3-2 on the season while Holy Cross drops to 2-2. The Friars return to action on Friday, September 16 when they travel to New Hampshire for a 4:00 p.m. match against the Wildcats.
