CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The Providence College men's soccer team recorded its second 1-1 double-overtime tie of the weekend as the Friars battled Cincinnati in a BIG EAST game at Cincinnati, Ohio on Sunday, September 18. For the Friars, who tied Louisville, 1-1, on Friday, it was their fourth 1-1 tie of the season. With the tie against Cincinnati, PC improved to 2-0-4 on the season and remained undefeated. It marks the first time since 1972 and just the third time in the 38-year history of the program that the Friars have been undefeated through their first six games.
Cincinnati (3-2-1, 2-0-1) came into the game inspired after earning a 2-0 win over No. 1 ranked Connecticut on Friday. The Bearcats did not waste time getting on the scoreboard as Sam Miller booted in a shot from 20 yards out after a corner kick just 5:15 into the game. Amir Ikner and Noah Davidson were credited with the assists.
Providence forced the tie in the 56th minute as senior Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) scored his team leading fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick. The game went back and forth through the remainder of regulation time as each goalkeeper finished 90 minutes of play with six saves each. In overtime, each team registered six shots, with Friar goalkeeper Chris Konopka (Toms River, N.J.) making three of his nine saves over the 20 minutes of overtime action.
Providence will return to action on Friday, September 23 versus Syracuse in the Friars' BIG EAST home opener at 4:00 p.m.
