PROVIDENCE, R.I. - On Friday, September 30, the Providence College women's soccer team was blanked, 3-0, by the Louisville Cardinals. Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Fedyshyn (Lincroft, N.J.) made four saves in net for PC.

Providence and Louisville battled back and forth for most of the first half, before the Cardinals' Jen Avila fed the ball to Jamie Craft, who beat a PC defender and then slipped the ball past Fedyshyn at the 34:49 mark, netting her fifth goal of the season.

Less than two minutes into the second half, the Cardinals struck again when Monique Gjini sent a shot into the upper left corner of the net, putting Louisville up 2-0. At the 51:30 mark, PC's freshman Christie Gent (Plantation, Fla.) sent a corner kick to the front of the net where classmate Kelly Pettersen's (Massapequa, N.Y.) shot was blocked by a Louisville defender. Just seconds later, sophomore Kelsey Kirkpatrick (Hatboro, Pa.) followed up with a rebound shot which was also booted away by a member of the Cardinals' backline.

The Friars continued with an aggressive attack as Pettersen blasted a shot from 15 yards out that fell just wide of the upper right corner of the net at 58:35. Fifteen minutes later, freshman Megan Mancarella's (Rochester, N.Y.) header was tossed away by Louisville's goalie, Deana Waintraub. Mancarella followed her shot and attempted to head the rebound into the net, but a Louisville defender intercepted the ball and shifted play in the other direction.

Less than a minute after re-entering the game, Louisville's Craft took a shot on goal at 78:22 and then sent the rebound to the back of the net eight seconds later to give the Cardinals their third and final goal of the afternoon. With the victory, Louisville's Waintraub picked up her sixth shutout of the season.

The Friars (3-6-1 / 0-3-1 BIG EAST) return to action on Sunday, October 2 when they host Cincinnati at PC's Glay Field at 1:00 p.m.
